Adjunct Instructor, Intermediate German

The University of Portland invites applications for an adjunct instructor position in Intermediate German for the Department of International Languages and Cultures. This appointment is for the Spring 2020 semester, with the possibility of course/s in the Fall 2020 semester as well depending on enrollment. The Spring 2020 semester starts January 11, 2020, and ends April 29, 2020.

Adjunct instructors are hired on a per semester basis, and teach assigned International Languages and Cultures Department courses, not to exceed 12 credit hours across the University in an academic year. This position has no benefits (other than sick leave benefits consistent with Oregon requirements).

- Teach one to two courses per semester using evidence-based instructional practices.

- Prepare syllabus and adhere to syllabus requirements.

- Conduct regular student assessments and provide timely graded feedback, including homework, quizzes, exams, and presentations.

- Online homework system use may be required.

- Be available in person for regular student meetings (office hours).

- Final exams must be kept on file and made available upon request for one academic year.

- Conduct oneself in a professional manner, including maintaining a respectful classroom environment and collegial interactions.

Education and/or Experience

Required: Master's degree in German (Ph.D. in German preferred).

Required: N
ear-native or native proficiency in German and English.

Preferred: At least three years of teaching experience.
