The University of Portland invites applications for an adjunct instructor position in Public Speaking for the Department of Communication Studies. This appointment is for the Fall 2020 semester, with the possibility of course/s in the Spring 2021 semester as well depending on enrollment. The Fall 2020 semester starts August 24, 2020, and ends December 11, 2020. 

Adjunct instructors are hired on a per semester basis, and teach assigned Department of Communication Studies courses, not to exceed 12 credit hours across the University in an academic year. This position has no benefits (other than sick leave benefits consistent with Oregon requirements).
 

- Teach courses using evidence-based instructional practices.

- Adhere to syllabus requirements.

- Conduct regular student assessments and provide timely graded feedback; including homework, quizzes, and exams.

- Online homework system use may be required.

- Be available in person for regular student meetings (office hours).

- Conduct oneself in a professional manner, including maintaining a respectful classroom environment and collegial interactions.
 

Education and/or Experience

Required: Master's degree in Communication or Rhetoric.


Preferred: At least three years of teaching experience.
