The University of Portland invites applications for an adjunct instructor position as Assistant Speech and Debate Coach (ASDC). This position reports to the Director of the University of Portland Speech and Debate Union.

This appointment is for the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 semesters, with the possibility of teaching additional course/s depending on department need and the candidate's interest and area of expertise. The Fall 2020 semester starts August 24, 2020, and ends December 11, 2020. 

Adjunct instructors are hired on a per semester basis, and may teach assigned Department of Communication Studies courses, not to exceed 12 credit hours across the University in an academic year. This position has no benefits (other than sick leave benefits consistent with Oregon requirements).

- Coach members of University of Portland Speech and Debate Union in the fundamentals of argumentation and basic public speaking.

- Travel with and responsible for driving members of the University of Portland Speech and Debate Union members to Speech and Debate tournaments.

- Assist the Director of the Union in planning Speech and Debate tournaments.

- Assists the Director of the Union with recruitment.

- Plans, prepares and conducts personal tutoring sessions for the Speech and Debate team members.

Education and/or Experience

Required: Master's degree

Required: Ability to understand the principles of argumentation and remain well-versed in current affairs.

Preferred: At least one year of experience as a participant in intercollegiate forensics.

Preferred: Previous coaching experience.
